Simon Dodd - Dover and Deal Parliamentary Candidate

Photograph Simon Dodd / Press Release

Simon is a solicitor specialising in competition and EU law and joined the Liberal Democrats while still at university. He is married with one daughter.

A passionate European, Simon is particularly concerned about the impact on the residents of Dover and Deal of leaving the EU without a proper trade deal. "In standing for this seat I want to protect and increase jobs and quality of life for local people," he explains.

"As a border town, Dover is threatened head-on with the practical realities of leaving the EU single market. The imposition of tariffs on goods passing to and from the continent will place an extra burden on customs officials and lorry traffic in terms of enjoying a smooth transition through the port. So far, the current Government has made no mention of this huge and expensive challenge."

Simon is also campaigning against the Conservative government's cuts to the NHS, social care and schools. "Our public services are in crisis. This is the time to start investing in the future of our country."

The Liberal Democrats have announced they will invest over £47 million more in schools and colleges in Kent over the next parliament.

The funding for Kent would reverse cuts to frontline school and college budgets, protect per pupil funding in real terms and ensure no school loses out from changes to funding arrangements.
