Mr Carter the stated that KCC had expressed 'grave concern' about the proposal to delay the introduction of Thameslink services to Maidstone until December 2019. This would 'blight businesses and residents throughout mid-Kent'.

Mr Carter went on to state that KCC has also made it clear, both to the Department for Transport and to the companies bidding for the new South Eastern franchise, that the proposed option to replace the High Speed service between Maidstone West and London St Pancras w Rob Birdith a much slower service to Abbey Wood is completely unacceptable.

The exchange in County Hall followed all party support for a motion in support of Maidstone's rail services at last week's Borough Council meeting in Maidstone.
