Angie Curwen collecting signitures for petition against bus route closures in Minster, Dec 2017Congratulations to Angie Curwen on coming second in the by-election for the Villages ward for Thanet District Council.

She had the support of 25% of those voting, which was a huge increase on previous Lib Dem results in this ward, and comfortably beat Labour, an independent and the Greens.

The re-election of the Conservative candidate in the scheduled 2019 elections will be hotly contested. This result was achieved with a lot of support from Thanet members, and also a helping hand from members in Canterbury and other local Lib Dem parties.

In the by-election for Kent County Council, Angie came third, beating the UKIP and Green candidates.

Results in full are:

Thanet DC, Thanet Villages - 11th January 2018 - Conservative hold

Con 620 [49.3%; +23.4%]
LD Angie Curwen 313 [24.9%; +24.9%]
Lab 206 [16.4%; +5.9%]
Grn 66 [5.3%; -7.0%]
Ind 52 [4.1%; -22.9%]
UKIP 0 [[0.0%; -24.4%]]

Kent CC, Birchington & Rural - 11th January 2018 - Conservative hold

LD Angie Curwen 561 [12.5%; +0.5%]
UKIP 357 [8.0%; -7.8%]
Grn 169 [3.8%; -1.8%]

As you can see from the result we did really well bearing in mind that we did not stand a Liberal Democrat candidate in the last two district council elections.

So a very big thank you to everyone who has contributed to our campaign.
