42% of respondents in our recent survey to the Thanet Villages highlighted planning as a major concern to them.

This included anxieties about the increasing number of homes planned for the Thanet Villages area, the future use of the Manston airport site and concerns over the consistency and transparency of the planning process.

As a result of reversing its manifesto commitment regarding the future use of the Manston airport site, the UKIP led council has missed legal requirements to have submitted its local plan for Thanet.

On 16th November, Sajid Javid, the secretary of state for Communities and Local Government said he was writing to give TDC the opportunity to put forward any exceptional circumstances, by 31 January 2018, which justify its failure to produce a Local Plan as required by law. If TDC fail to produce a plan, Mr Javid will use intervention powers to ensure plans are put in place.

Local campaigner, Angie Curwen says:

"The task of TDC now is try to prevent the Government intervening and imposing an even higher level of development."

"To complicate matters, the government is consulting on a new way of calculating housing delivery targets. The new method the government is proposing to use would drastically increase house building in parts of Southern England. I will work with Lib Dem Councillors across the South East, who are also concerned about the high increases that are proposed, to vigorously challenge this."

"The scale of housing proposed is vast and I feel it is unjustified for the need in the area. There is a need for more social and affordable housing not just executive homes. I will push for future local house builds to be reserved for local people."
