Tories are on whose side over Manston?

By George Cunningham in Letter to constituents

Dear Sir/Madam

Tories are on whose side over Manston?

The well-known divisions in the Tory ranks have taken a new turn.

The Conservatives have arranged for huge photographs of their Thanet candidates to be posted on buses run by Stagecoach, a company founded and partly owned by Anne Gloag who is responsible for closing Manston airport.

There are also many posters of Craig Mackinlay displayed on land alongside the airport itself - presumably placed there with the permission of the Discovery Park owners who have quite openly come out for the housing option for developing the site - let alone the fact that Manston Airport is in North Thanet while Mackinlay is running for South Thanet (and why does Gale not want his picture displayed there instead)?

I do hope all this does not lead one to conclude that the lack of unanimity by local Tories on Manston means the issue will be conveniently forgotten after the election.

Thanet Liberal Democrats have been consistently staunch in supporting pro-Manston Airport initiatives. We have been proud to promote Thanet's Chamber of Commerce's business plan amongst potential investors who are waiting to invest once the airport has been revived.

We call on the Tories to show their support for Manston Airport by removing this advertising which could be considered to be tainted by association with those whose desire is to create a massive housing development on the land instead.

Yours faithfully

George Cunningham - Liberal Democrat

Parliamentary Candidate for NorthThanet
